As confessional Lutherans, we believe that the Bible is God’s holy, inspired, and infallible Word, and that Jesus Christ is the promised Messiah, true man and true God, who bore our sins, died on a cross, and rose from the dead for our salvation. All who believe this will be saved.
We also subscribe to the three ecumenical creeds (the Apostles Creed, the Nicene Creed, and the Athanasian Creed), and the Lutheran confessions contained in the Book of Concord of 1580 (the Augsburg Confession, the Small and Large Catechism, and the Formula of Concord). These creeds and confessions are not additions to scripture; rather, they agree with scripture, and properly expose how the Bible should be interpreted. Our church and school belong to a larger church body, known as the Evangelical Lutheran Synod (ELS). The ELS is composed of 120 member congregations across the United States who believe and confess as we do, and is in fellowship with the Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod (WELS). In 1918, Scarville was a founding member of this synod. Since then, the synod has grown and has its own theological seminary and liberal arts college, located in Mankato, MN.
